Round 1 of WY HS MTB League: The Casper Classic!!

Alright alright alright..... This is gonna be so much fun for the whole family!  Your going to just love this weekend of August11th and August 12th.

Starting Saturday August 11th, the Casper Area Mountain Bike Youth Racers (CAMBYR) invite any and all School aged kids from 7th -12th grade to join them in the first ever Wyoming High School Mountain Bike League Race.  This is the first of a 3 race series in Wyoming.  Put together a team from your community and come up with a team name, start a mountain bike club in your school, or come to race on your own.  Team trophy's will be awarded for the top 3 teams.  2 boys and 1 girls points will be taken from each of the Beginner, Junior Varsity and Varsity categories to count for team points.  So 9 racers would fill out a team and score lots of points.

Here is the schedule of events:

Where:  On Casper Mountain with the start and finish located a hundred yards behind the beautiful Nordic Ski Lodge (drive up Casper Mtn Rd and follow the signs, you can't miss it.  From Laramie, there is a shortcut, turn onto Circle Drive from HWY 487.  about 8 miles of rough gravel, but might save you some time).  Parking in the lodge is available and also in Beartrap Meadow.  There is no parking on the road or Struby loop.  If things get full, we will help direct you.

The lodge will be open all day Sunday with flushing toilets, water and good food.  Meals are included in the entry fee for the racers and the public can get a hardy meal for just 8 bucks.

Teams can set-up their pit zone on Saturday if they like.  There is space for the first 4 teams to set up a tent and have electricity just past the Start/Finish line.  Any other teams can set their tents further down the row, but there will not be electricity.  The main aid station will be just across the trail from the pit zone, so water and gatorade will always be handy.

Citizens who want to race will be charged 10 dollars, but this fee will be waived if you can volunteer on Saturday or Sunday during the races.  We have a variety of ways to volunteer.  Contact Adam at casperhsmtb@gmail.com if you can volunteer.

Goodie bags will be given to all the high school racers.  We have some stuff already, but if you or your business has coupons or goodies that you would like to donate, bring them to registration on Saturday or give us an email and we can pick them up.

Registration will be onsite, but PLEASE RSVP ON THE BLOG SO WE HAVE ENOUGH FOOD for everyone.  www.casperyouthmtb.blogspot.com
There is a map of the course there also.  Check it out and pre-ride if you are in town.

Spectators: check out the course map.  You can see that there are a couple fun spots that a parent or friend could walk too to see some racing action.  With music and announcing at the start/finish, that will be a fun spot.  There is also a great spot about 100 yards from the start/finish that will be good to see the kids on some great single-track.  Another spot would be a short hike across Struby loop and up a hill to watch the kids climbing and then come down a short decent.  Ride your own bike to make it to this spot and then ride back to see all three spots is what I plan on doing :)

Skills Clinic

Hey Team,

We missed you! We had 6-7 youth show for the registration night and pizza party. We went over a few rules and expectations, and then proceeded to show a little of how the registration process works. All youth that have expressed some interest in the team should have received an invitation to the NICA Pitzone to register. It's a pretty user friendly way of registering. If you have any questions, shoot us an email at casperhsmtb@gmail.com and we'll help you out. Anyhow, onward and upward!

Time for another skills clinic! Meet at Mike Sedar Park this Thursday the 19th of July at 5PM for some great skills instruction. We the coaches learned a lot when we went through the skills clinic portion of our Leaders Summit back in April. It's been fun to ride this summer applying what we learned, and we are excited to share them with each of you and watch the improvements and changes this will make to your riding styles and abilities. Bring your bikes, Helmet, water, and tools if you have them. (No Helmet, No Ride!!!) For those who have not had a bike fit, we will do that also if needed. Parents have asked if its OK to hang out and ride with the team. Feel free as we understand the desire to not run across town a couple times a night. See ya Thurs.

Next pre-season activity!!

It's about time!! Time for what you say? Don't miss the CAMBYR activity this Thurs. We will be showing you how to officially sign up for the team! It's an exciting time as it's taken a lot of work to get here. Us coaches are ready to make things official.

Thursday at 6PM meet at Wind City Physical Therapy (1347 S. Wisconsin Ave.). It's basically one block East and one block south of 12th and Beverly. We will have some pizza there and if time allows and you and your parents are ready, you may register that night. Team registration will close on Wed. July 25th. with the regular season beginning the 1st of August. We will also have copies of a calendar available so that you can keep track of whats going on if you don't have a gmail account.

There are still a number of youth who haven't had a bike fit and bike check. If you are one of them bring your bike on Thurs. and we will be able to sneak that in also. This is important as NICA does have some rules that we need to abide by for your safety.

On Monday night, on Muddy Mountain is the Next Fat Fish Race. Not only is it really good experience, but all of us coaches will be there also. If you are there, please make contact with us so that we can make sure we are getting to know you and can make sure we are communicating well enough that you will know what is going on also.

Looking forward to Thursday and the upcoming season.  Give us a shout at the team email address if you have any questions. casperhsmtb@gmail.com
