Start of the race

Thursday, March 27, 2014

2014 is off to a great start with coaches and ride leaders getting together to talk about the upcoming season.  It was really nice to see Sarah take the skills and excitement that she gained from her senior year of high school mountain biking and apply it to officially start the first ever mountain biking club at Casper College!!  Way to go Sarah!

The CAMBYR coaching staff is very happy to say that we will be in the high schools this spring to recruit.  The CAMBYR youth will be racing all summer long in the local Fat Fish Racing mountain bike series.  So if you are a student or a parent of a youth that is interested in mountain biking, then look for those cool jerseys out on the trails this summer.

Official practices will start in July this year with one practice per week.  Starting in August, practices will be 3 days a week and roughly 1.5 hours per practice.

What does it take to be a member of CAMBYR??
-registration with NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) $50
-sports physical
-attendance of at least 2 practices per week
-good grades (weekly reports given to coach are mandatory)
-a cross country style mountain bike (not downhill, not dirt jumper, not bmx)

CAMBYR will be competing in 6 races this fall!

-Sept 7th in Granby, CO.  This is a NICA sanctioned race and is open to grades 9-12.  All of the team, including junior high students, are invited to join the team in the race.  Camping, riding bike, cooking, camaraderie.

-Sept 21st in Leadville, CO.  The highest race you'll ever compete at!!  So much fun.  Another NICA sanctioned race for grades 9-12 but everyone is invited.

-Sept ? Stone Temple 8 in Laramie, WY.  Open to grades 7-12, lets hope it's not as windy as last year!!

October 5th in Elbert, CO.  This course is so much fun.  Great riding for all abilities.  A NICA sanctioned race for grades 9-12.

October 11th in Sheridan, WY.  The Biketober fest race in Sheridan was one of the favorites by all the kids last year.  Open to all ages and even adults!

October 19th in Eagle, CO.  This is the state championships for the NICA series.  Technical, fast, fun!!

Keep looking back every week or so for the latest news on CAMBYR.  Until next time,  happy trails!

Race recap from Snow Mountain Ranch

Just a couple weeks ago, CAMBYR was down in Granby Colorado for race #1 of the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League.  It was such an amazing event!  Nine youth from Casper raced their hearts out.  The weather was beautiful all day up to the final lap of the JV race.  There were 4 of the racers on the team that got caught in the pouring rain and were pulled from finishing their final lap.  With most of the team being new to the NICA sanctioned races, it was an exciting experience to see over 500 kids racing!!

Fun Summer

What a busy summer the racers of CAMBYR have had this year!  From racing in Denver, to Breckenridge, to Curt Gowdy and even a few of the team members took part in a week long mountain bike camp in Laramie.  The kids are learning so much and us coaches are having a great time seeing the racers on the trails.  The local mountain bike series has been a great place for us all to see each other and talk about racing.  The first practice and team meeting will be Thursday August 1st.  We will do a little bike fitting and then go for a ride before our pizza party.  At that time, we can register any youth that still have not been "invited" by our online registration.

We have a wonderful bunch of talented and knowledgable ride leaders this year and our practices will be awesome.  We have so much help, that we want to add another day.  So Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays will be practices.  Practice locations will vary, so pay attention to your emails and our Facebook page (coming very soon).

Are you on the email list?  If not, shoot me an email at casperhsmtb@gmail.com and i'll get you added.

See you soon and enjoy these photos of some of the team members racing their bikes this summer!!
